Job Description

Role Title: Performance Technical Leader


Department: FSE Rolls Royce


Location: Derby


Reporting to: Chief Engineer, Programme Manager


ROLE PURPOSE The role of the Performance Technical Leader is to manage and develop the capacity and capability of the engineering staff within the performance team. The role is accountable for defining and monitoring tasks involving the delivery of propulsion systems solutions that achieve the required through-life functional characteristics. Through technical leadership, the job holder ensures that solutions applied meet all specific project technical requirements regarding time, cost and quality.


KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE The role of requires technical decision-making capability in the given discipline therefore extensive experience in a relevant engineering environment is essential. Previous experience of holding a position of Technical Authority is preferred, as is previous experience of Civil Aero Gas Turbines.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES


The key accountability for the Technical Leader is the technical governance of the solutions developed within the project teams. This is to be achieved through the development and alignment of core competencies in a manner that facilitates delivery. As such the governance is to be achieved through the participation in both technical reviews and project control reviews. The Technical Leader should take the lead in development of the skills of the team members. Good communication skills and a willingness to pass on knowledge and develop individuals within the team are considered key to success. The ability to write methodologies and check that the teams are producing output that meets the requirements is a high priority in this role. The Technical Leader is required to maintain regular interfaces within both the internal team, and the customer teams to ensure programme requirements are achieved in accordance with requirements.


EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE) Experience


Performance modelling of Gas Turbines (Both Steady State and Transient Operability, Engine Test Support, On Wing Analysis, Analysis & Compliance, Service Contracts) -Development of algorithms -Management, Monitoring and Risk Reduction of engineering programmes -Mentoring and teaching of less experienced staff


Knowledge -Gas Turbine Operation -Airworthiness Knowledge -Standard Systems Engineering Principles


Qualifications -BEng or BSc in relevant field


EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRABLE TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE)


Experience -Rolls Royce FSE Performance Experience-Fluids -Air/Oil Systems Experience Knowledge - Knowledge of Rolls Royce engine performance modelling methods -Knowledge of aero-acoustics


Qualifications -MSc, MEng or PhD in relevant field. -Additional Systems Engineering Qualifications -Chartered Engineer Status
