Job Description

Station Engineer

Location Stafford

Salary 34k

ALSTOM GRID UK Ltd - Power Electronics HVDC and FACTS,Staffordis an international leader in Power Electronics and Control Technology, specialising in the engineering of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems, Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and other FACTS Systems for power utilities worldwide.

The Role

The successful applicant will be responsible to

Overlook the layout design
Prepare installation and pre-commissioning documentation
Specify and overlook the design of the cooling plant
Specify busbars, cables, connectors, and insulators
Design of safety and mechanical interlocking
Prepare functional specifications for auxiliary supplies, ventilation and fire detection systems, as well as civil requirements for the converter station
Prepare and/or review cable and termination schedules
Prepare and/or review interconnection diagrams
Perform noise studies
Perform technical evaluation of suppliers proposals and documentation
Act as a line coordinator during tenders and projects

The Person

Educational Requirements

The applicant will be educated to degree level or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

The applicant will have proven experience in substation application engineering as well as knowledge/understanding of electrical power system

Engineering for Utility customers. Understanding of structures and civil requirements will be advantageous. The applicant will have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and be a proficient user of AutoCAD. The applicant will work well within a team, demonstrating good communication skills and fluency in English. Some competence in French, Spanish or Arabic would be advantageous but not essential.
