Job Description

Job Title: Skilled Machinist


Department: Transmissions and Mechanical Parts Centre of Excellence


Rate: £15.00 Ltd per hour


Duration: 3/6 Months + Depending on work load


Situated: Yeovil, Somerset


Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


  • Controls are mainly Fanuc, Siemens and Mazatrol control panels
  • Candidates must be able to set and operate (programming is advantageous)
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Engineering Production or an equivalent time served Engineering Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
  • Conversant with Aerospace standard engineering drawings

Major Aerospace Client


An opportunity has arisen within the Transmissions and Mechanical Parts Centre of Excellence for the position of Skilled Machinist reporting to the Production Supervisor working as part of a shift team responsible for setting and operating of conventional and CNC machinery in order to produce components to the appropriate quality and within appropriate timescales. This will require making settings and adjustments to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish.


Main responsibilities will include, but not limited to:


  • Setting machinery following the Job Card and Process Sketch Data and using relevant set up sheets.
  • Use measuring equipment to inspect machine components - this will involve training from the Quality department and a medical eye test to gain approval.
  • Responsible for ensuring first off and batch work meets sketch requirements and recording any information as required.
  • Ensuring that components are handled and stored appropriately.
  • Managing your own workload ensuring quality, cost and delivery.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


  • Controls Fanuc (Siemens and Mazatrol)

  • A flexible approach to changing work priorities and the ability to work on own initiative as part of a small team are essential.
  • Willingness to work a flexible shift pattern

Please Note - This contract role is for a MOD company so SC security clearance will be required, DV preferred or you should be eligible to apply for SC
